News and screenshots on GNU/Darwin
Posted Jan 03, 2005 - 12:04 PM

gnu-darwin news
New pieces are slowly being added to the GNU/Darwin project.
There is now a bootable DVD-R available, you can find the bootable DVD-R protocol used at this url. This is a FAT bootable DVD-R, which means this will work for both the supported architectures, PPC and x86 (it is built on x86). This seems to be still in an early testing stage, but it is working and there could be some "official" relase soon.

Another "small" piece added is Firefox 1.0 (once again both for PPC and x86): considering the great success it is achieving it is a must-have on every distribution. Now GNU/Darwin has it too.

People wondering how GNU/Darwin looks like can finally look at a few screenshots made by the authors. The first one shows a WMaker environment, the second one shows Gnome at work, with Firefox, Glade and a number of applications. Last one is on a simple WMaker too.

It looks like GNUstep applications.

GNUstep is a free Cocoa/OpenStep clone.
You can see Addresses ( with Apple Adresses Book like framework ) , Gorm ( the OPENSTEP/MacOSX Interface Builder clone) , GNUMail ( it also works on OS X/Cocoa) & Project Center
