The latest Gentoo weekly newsletter has a small section dedicated to the recent Freescale donations of ten machines to the Gentoo community.
Freescale is doing this to understand if there is a market for Linux PowerPC port on desktop machines.

PegasosPPC platform by Genesi is currently shipping with Motorola/Freescale G4 CPUs. The most interesting thing is that this platform is built with a modular design that permits users to easily upgrade the CPU module with the newest processors once they come out. Without no modifications needed. PegasosPPC is currently being supported already by many PPC distributions, as YellowDog and Crux.

The Gentoo community is distributing these machines to developers of several key areas of th system: base system, security, X11 and Gome mantainers among them.
